UC Davis' Black Engineers Association, Chicano and Latino Engineers and Scientists Society, Pilipinx Americans in Science and Engineering, and Society of Women Engineers invite you to our first-ever The State of Diversity in Engineering Summit event.
The Diversity Summit aims to instigate incisive discussions on the significance and impact of diversity and inclusivity from the classroom to the engineering industry. The format will be two 40-min panels with networking sessions in between.
Free food will be provided.
Founded in the 1960s, BEA is the premier organization for Black students in STEM at UC Davis. Our organization was created to aid in the retainment, retention, and academic success of Black students in the College of Engineering. Today, we've expanded our efforts by sending students in STEM majors to NSBE conventions twice a year and holding academic & professional development workshops throughout the year for the Black community.
We are proud to be an advocate for racial, gender, and sexual orientation diversity on campus and beyond.
CALESS was established in 1975 by five Chicano/Latino students pursuing degrees in science and engineering. We were established on the premise of providing academic, cultural, and social support to its members whose interests vary in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Through CALESS, members have access to scholarships, professional development, mentoring and tutoring. CALESS also serves as a gateway for students to network and work together through their academic struggles and accomplishments as well as help nurture relationships within one another.
In 1980, the Associate Dean of the College of Engineering at UC Davis founded the Pilipino American Society of Engineers (PASE) in response to the increasing need for engineering support for minorities. Created within the College of Engineering, PASE, a non-profit organization, was established to unite the small but evident Filipinx American engineering population at the UC Davis campus. In 1997, PASE officially changed its name to Pilipino Americans in Science and Engineering to expand to the needs of Filipinx American Students in physical sciences. In 2015, PASE officially changed its name to Pilipinx Americans in Science and Engineering to welcome all identities along the gender spectrum.
SWE at UC Davis is an all inclusive student led club on campus, with the aim to increase diversity in the workforce by guiding students in pursuing engineering careers. We provide professional development and community opportunities to help students succeed as engineers on campus as well as in the industry. This past year, we have been involved in sending UC Davis engineers to multiple professional conferences and hosting over 20 events with companies from across the nation, and are excited to continue providing more opportunities to the incredible community at UC Davis.
